Habitat

This adaptable snake inhabits Sonoran and Chihuahuan deserts, semidesert grassland, thornscrub, open woodland, rocky foothills, canyon country, and dry ranchland. Encounters are most likely on warm roads after sunset, beside desert trails, around rock piles or brush, and near buildings that provide shelter or attract rodents.
